RITA DOMINIC

Nollywood actress Rita Dominic has revealed that she was paid the sum of N10, 000 for her first movie role.

Rita Dominic made this revelation in a recent interview with Joy 99.7 FM in Ghana.

When asked about the lowest amount she has ever received for a movie role, she said, “The first film I did, the filmmaker paid me N35, 000. But he owed me N25, 000 for how many months. In fact, he didn’t even pay me the balance. He paid me only N10, 000.”

The actress said when she started acting, Nollywood wasn’t lucrative but she was driven by her passion.

She said “I just wanted to be an actor. And to be honest, there was no money in Nollywood back then. We were just doing it for passion. We have the passion for the art which was what fuelled us.

“It was very challenging. But we just kept doing it until the industry got bigger and bigger. And obviously, the pay became much better.”

Portable makes thousands of Nigerian women cry again as he says his 5th wife cannot be a Nigerian.

Portable has spent over 2 months in the UK and in a recent podcast he has revealed that Nigerian women are almost the same, he is not going to get married to another woman from Nigeria

He insisted that his 5th wife must be from the UK.
To him those women work hard and when they love you they don’t bill you, they have their own money so they do not even love you for money.

He added that in Nigeria you don’t know if they love you or they are just hungry.

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) has clarified that none of its staff has been approached or engaged by the campaign team of the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to be included on its manifesto committee on the economy.

GSE in a statement clarified that the Abena Amoah included on Bawumia’s manifesto committee on the economy is not the same as its managing director and urged the general public and partners of the exchange to disregard such reports.

“We wish to state categorically that the named Ms. Abena Amoah on the list is NOT Ms. Abena Amoah, Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange. Our Ms. Abena Amoah has not been approached or had any discussion or agreement on the subject matter with the Campaign Team,” the statement read in part.

Below is the GSE’s full statement.

The attention of the Ghana Stock Exchange has been drawn to a press release dated February 22, 2024, with reference number 022-DMB-2024 and signed by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications of ‘Bawumia For President 2024’.

The said press release has one ‘Ms. Abena Amoah’ named as Co-Chair of the Committee on the Economy.

We wish to state categorically that the named Ms. Abena Amoah on the list is NOT Ms. Abena Amoah, Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange. Our Ms. Abena Amoah has not been approached or had any discussion or agreement on the subject matter with the Campaign Team.

We wish to assure all our market operators, issuers, stakeholders, and the public that the Ghana Stock Exchange and its leadership continue to be apolitical. We remain focused on delivering on our mandate of providing a robust platform for raising capital and investment for economic prosperity to all Ghanaians and our international stakeholders.

Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. John Kumah, has disclosed that the government collected a total of GH¢1.19 billion in revenue from the E-levy for the year 2023.

From this sum, the government allocated funds to its YouStart Programme, the Ghana Enterprise Agency, and the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme to combat unemployment in the country.

Dr. John Kumah made these remarks in response to the latest figures from the Ghana Statistical Service, which indicated that over a million Ghanaian youth were unemployed, during the media launch of the Wealth and Jobs Expo Ghana.

“The Ghana Statistical Service on Wednesday announced that about 1.5 million Ghanaian youth are unemployed. Last year, E-levy generated GH¢1.19 billion and as part of dealing with the job situation… unemployment situation, the government has committed funds through YouStart from this E-levy sources…to GEA and NEIP to address the unemployment situation in the country, and I am happy to announce that institutions like Wealth and Jobs Expo and all private groups that are willing to help create jobs in the private sector will also be supported to help create jobs and businesses in the private sector,” he said

Dr. John Kumah further highlighted the government’s efforts in attracting investments into the country while spurring job creation, emphasizing the need for belief in entrepreneurship to address the unemployment rate.

“In the medium term, the government aims to intensify efforts to attract domestic investments and FDIs [Foreign Direct Investments] in strategic centres with emphasis on creating jobs anchored on the government’s growth strategy. The strategy is projected to contribute to the creation of approximately 500,000 jobs.

“We are not saying 1.5 million [unemployed youth], every one of them should create jobs. No. Even if we get it, we get 10% of them, it’s 150,000 who will become entrepreneurs. If they do an average of let’s say 100 jobs….150,000 x 100, you have almost solved the unemployment problem,” the Deputy Minister of Finance added.
